Am I eligible for Motability?

To benefit from the Motability Scheme, you must be in receipt of either the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance or the War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement. Parents can apply on behalf of a child who is in receipt of the benefit, while those unable to drive can nominate up to two drivers.

How does Motability work?

After selecting the car you wish to buy, you will be able to exchange your mobility supplement to aid your purchase. There are two plans currently available through the Motability Scheme: Contract Hire and Hire Purchase.

Contract Hire is an agreement of three years which enables you to rent a new vehicle. It has a number of additional benefits, with tax, insurance, aftersales services and breakdown cover all included in the cost. It does, however, carry a mileage limit of 60,000 miles.

Hire Purchase, meanwhile, has no fixed mileage and means that you purchase your car outright and make any modifications you wish.
