Although the exact details of the Scrappage Scheme and the implementation are still being developed, here is a brief summary of the scheme details so far. We will update this as soon as more information becomes available:

• In exchange for scrapping your old vehicle and buying a new one the Government and Renault will contribute a total of £2,000 towards the purchase of a new vehicle
• The scheme starts on May 18th 2009
• The scheme will be available until 28th February 2010, or until £300 million has been spent by the Government (approx. 300,000 eligible claimants), whichever comes first.

THE VEHICLE YOU SCRAP:

• Must be a car or commercial vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes
• Must have been first registered on or prior to 31 July 1999
• You must either be registered as the vehicle owner, or have a SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification) and the vehicle must have a current MOT certificate.
• You must have been the registered owner for 12 months prior to the order date of your new vehicle.

YOUR NEW VEHICLE:

The new car or van you wish to buy must be:

• a car or small van weighing up to 3,500 kg
• first registered in the UK on or after mid May 2009
• declared new at first registration in the UK with no former keepers
